President's Message

Thirty seven years is a long time to wait for justice. Unfortunately, that’s how long Todd Cardillo and his family have waited for answers regarding the assassination of his father Patrolman Phil Cardillo in the Harlem Mosque #7 on April 14, 1972. Hopefully due to the tireless efforts of Randy Jergensen (Det. NYPD Ret.) the family may finally get some answers with the cooperation of the Justice Department. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has taken this case off the cold case status to an active homicide investigation. We pray that these developments will finally bring peace and closure to Todd, who was less than a year old when his father was murdered, and to the rest of his family.

Congratulations to Susan Porcello, our February Police Officer of the Month, her actions were an inspiration to the community, her fellow police officers, and all those in attendance at our last meeting. Her actions exemplify the highest traditions of the NYPD, and all police officers.

Don't forget you are always welcome to join us as we provide security and crowd control at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, Thursday May 28 - Saturday May 30. Also we once again will dress the graves of our veterans with flags AT LI National Cemetery in Farmingdale on Saturday May 23.

Rich Rottkamp will once again be running his highly entertaining and enjoyable Shields moonlight cruise this summer. The June edition of the Call Box will have further details.

Thanks to the generosity of our upcoming guest speaker and his organization there will be no admission charge for paid up members only at the April meeting. 50/50 tickets will still be available for purchase. Speaking of paid up members, check your mailing label, if it doesn’t say 2009 this will be your last copy of the Call Box.
