President's Message

On Saturday April 15, I had the honor and privilege to represent The Shields at the request of FOP Lodge 10 President John Malandrino at the memorial ride honoring slain PTL. Phil Cardillo. Not being a motorcycle rider I rode in a car with Tim Motto, the V/P of Lodge 69 to Calvary Cemetery to place a memorial wreath on Phil's grave. Phil's niece Aimee Reese honored us with her presence. While there we placed a call to Todd Cardillo in Florida to let him know that there were over 100 bikers paying respect to his dad. From the cemetery we drove past the "infamous" Mosque and visited the 28 Pct. Where we were welcome with open arms and smiling faces. THANK YOU members of the 28! We then finished up by visiting the Police Memorial Wall located near the WTC. site. It was both a humbling and rewarding experience. I thank John and his committee for a job "WELL DONE".

Speaking of "well done" events, we will be placing flags on the graves of deceased veteran's at L.I. National Cemetery on Saturday May 27th. Thursday, June 1st - Saturday, June 3rd, we will once again be performing security at the Games for the Physically Challenged at Mitchel Field, hope you will join us. You will find there is no better feeling!

Joe Wolff has scheduled Albert Barrette, as our guest speaker in May. Mr. Barrette will provide you with information that may save your life or that of a loved one.

Rich Rottkamp has scheduled this years boat ride for Friday, August 11th, he has promised changes to make the best boat ride even better this year.

Remember if your dependant child is eligible, completely fill out and return the scholarship application by the due date. You must know the university your child will attend in September, the drawing will take place at the May 11th meeting, awards will be presented at the June 22nd meeting. At the June meeting Todd Cardillo will present the scholarship in his fathers name, and (Ret. Det. NYPD) Randy Jurgensen will talk about the events of April 14, 1972. (He was there)!

Hope we see you at the next meeting, and at one of our upcoming participation events. You will definitely feel better if you can be there to help, and we do need the help.

Be careful, be safe wear your vest. You are important to us!

Fraternally,
Richie
